How to Set Up ZOPIM CHAT on Your eEdge Website

Imagine being able to "spy" on visitors to your eEdge website. Perhaps you post a Craigslist As that sends leads to your eEdge website. As those leads enter your site, you can see them appear on your site. You can see exactly what listings they are looking at, and most importantly, you can chat with them while they're on your website, and they can chat with you! While you're away, messages from visitors will be delivered to your email inbox. You'll also get an analysis of traffic to your website.

eEdge websites do not, by default, allow Zopim chat to run on them. However, the Pimp My eEdge site will modify Zopim for you to allow it to run on your eEdge website. It can be a long and confusing process if you're not very tech-savvy. This page should make the process much, much easier for you, however. With a little patience, you'll have an amazing amount of insight and power on your eEdge site.

STEP 1 Create a Zopim Account

The first step in adding Zopim to your website is to create an account at zopim.com. You will be able to customize the chat client with your name, colors, and notification sounds, then add it to your eEdge website (or any website).

To create a Zopim account...

  1. Go to zopim.com.
  2. Click the Try Zopim button.
  3. Follow the instructions from the Zopim website to continue creating your account.
Your new account will include a 2-week trial of Zopim Basic which includes some extra features. After that, your account will revert to a free, Zopim Lite account.

STEP 2 Create a Pimp My eEdge Account

You will also need to create a Pimp My eEdge account. Zopim will not work with an eEdge website without this modification. This site was created by a Keller Williams agent in order to process and modify your Zopim code so that it will work with your eEdge website.

To create a Pimp My eEdge account...

  1. Go to pimpmyeedge.com/wp-login.php?action=register.
  2. Enter a username and your email address.
  3. Check your email for your login information for Pimp My eEdge.
  4. Go to pimpmyeedge.com/wp-login.php.
  5. Log in with the username and password provided in the email.

STEP 3 Copy Zopim Chat Widget Codes

Now that you have both a Zopim and Pimp My eEdge account, you're ready to copy and paste your Zopim chat widget code into Pimp My eEdge for modification to work with your eEdge site.

  2. Right-click in the Embed the Live Chat Widget field and click Copy.

STEP 4 Paste Zopim Chat Widget Code into Pimp My eEdge

After copying your Zopim chat widget code from your Zopim.com account, you'll need to paste it into Pimp My eEdge to be processed and modified at that site.

To paste, activate, and customize your Zopim chat widget code into Pimp My eEdge...

  1. Go to pimpmyeedge.com/pimp-my-site/.

In the meantime, you will want to customize Zopim so that it will look and behave like you want it to when it finally does appear on your site. Keep following the steps below so that Zopim will be ready to go once it appears on your site.

Recommended Widget Behavior Settings

General Preferences

  • Language: Auto-Detect
  • Notification Sounds: CHECKED
  • Allow Phone Number: CHECKED
  • Allow Social Login: CHECKED (OPTIONAL)
This allows users to submit their name by allowing Zopim access to their Facebook and/or Google+ account(s). You may want to leave this UNCHECKED if you think that Zopim asking for access to users' Facebook or Google+ accounts will scare them.

Pre-Chat Form: ON
The
Pre-Chat Form will give the leads the option to provide you with their name, phone number, etc. before chatting with you. Although you're enabling the option to provide that information here, you will not require that leads provide you with this information before starting a chat by using the settings below.

  • Require Identity: CHECKED (OPTIONAL)
Requires a user to enter their name and email address in order to begin chatting. Leaving UNCHECKED will allow users to chat with you without supplying their name and email address.
  • Require Phone Number: Unchecked (OPTIONAL)
    Enabling this option
requires a user to provide a phone number before starting a chat. This option may be too much of a privacy concern for some people, and is best left UNCHECKED.
  • Require Department: UNCHECKED
  • Require Question: UNCHECKED (OPTIONAL)
Enabling this option requires a user to input a question before starting a chat. Leaving this UNCHECKED will allow users to provide their name and email address
    without asking a question.

When Offline: ON
Enabling this option allows leads to "chat" with you when you're logged out of Zopim by forwarding chats to you as an email.

  • Require Phone Number: UNCHECKED (OPTIONAL)
    Enabling this option
requires users to provide a phone number when asking a question when you are logged out of Zopim. Requiring a phone number may be too much of a privacy concern for some people, and is best left UNCHECKED. Note that even when you are logged out of Zopim, offline messages from your site will still be delivered to you as an email.
  • Custom Behavior: OFF

STEP 10 Customize Profile

You will want to edit your Zopim Profile to make sure your name, title, and avatar (paid version or trial only) appear correctly.

To customize your Zopim Profile...

  1. Go to Zopim's Profile settings in your Zopim Dashboard.
  2. Enter the Recommended Profile Settings to the right.
  3. Click Save Changes.

  • Tagline: REALTOR or Real Estate Consultant
  • Login Email: Your Email Address
This is the email address you use to log in to Zopim, and cannot be changed.
  • Avatar: Your Photo
    You should upload a professional
headshot of yourself here if you have the free, 14-day Basic trial, or are paying for Zopim Basic or Advanced. Note that this should be a headshot. A full body photo will be too small to see any detail here in the chat client.

  • Received Messages...Offline: CHECKED
This will send chat messages to your email when you are logged out of Zopim. You should definitely keep this item CHECKED so that you don't miss any messages.
  • Receive Periodic Email Updates...: UNCHECKED (OPTIONAL)
This is simply a newsletter about updates to Zopim, and will not affect your ability to receive chat messages.

STEP 11 Customize Sound Notifications

Sound Notifications are an important component of your Zopim chat widget. The sounds you select will play to alert you of specific events that occur on your website. For instance, a sound can play to alert you that someone has entered your website. Sounds will play as long as you are logged in to your Zopim Dashboard and it remains open in your browser. The Zopim Dashboard can be minimized while you're working on other things, and the sound notifications will still play.

To customize Zopim's Sound Notifications...

  1. Go to Zopim's Sound Notifications settings in your Zopim Dashboard.
  2. Enter the Recommended Sound Notification Settings to the right.
  3. Click Save Changes.

Recommended Widget Behavior Settings

  • Incoming Visitor: Whistle
You will (hopefully) hear this sound a lot. You may want to turn the volume slider all the way down for this sound. Even with the volume slider at 0, you will still hear the sound.
  • Chat Request: Indian Brass
  • Incoming Message: Outgoing IM
  • Trigger Activated: Teaser
Triggers are automatic responses when a certain criteria is fulfilled. For example, if you do not respond to a chat message within a certain amount of time, Zopim can automatically send an apology for you. Triggers are only allowed forpaying Basic or Advanced users (or if you still have your 14-day trial).
  • Disconnection: Incoming IM
This sound is very loud. You may want to set the volume slider to the middle for this sound.

STEP 12 Customize Idle Timeout

Zopim's Idle Timeout feature will automatically set your status to Away or Offline when you have not be active at your computer for a specified amount of time. This will prevent situations where you might step away from your computer for some time, while the Zopim chat client on your website would continue to show that you are still online.

To customize Zopim's Idle Timeout settings...

  1. Go to Zopim's Idle Timeout settings in your Zopim Dashboard.
  2. Enter the Recommended Idle Timeout Settings to the right.
  3. Click Save Changes.

Enabling this option will automatically set your Zopim chat status to Away or Offline after a period of time you set. This is useful in the event that you are away from your computer, and unable to answer messages.
  • Ignore If Chatting: CHECKED
  • Idle Status: Offline
  • Inactivity Period: 5 Minutes

STEP 13 Download the Zopim Mobile App

One of the nicest features of Zopim is the ability to see your website's visitors and chat with them from your phone or tablet. Zopim has an app for both Android and iOS devices. You can download it at the links below. Just sign into the app on your phone, and start chatting with your site's visitors!
